Vermont summer adventures

The Snapdragon Inn

Yesterday was another steamy August day in Vermont so we took the crew and headed to Queechee gorge, just 25 minutes down the road, to play in the river. It's a short .4 mile walk down to the bottom from the car park and there are some nice shallow pools for kids to play in but also some deeper holes for others. The kids could have stayed there for hours but eventually we had to hike back out (goes a bit slower than the walk down) there are some nice shady spots and tables for a picnic at the top. There are plenty of little easy day adventures close by.

Perfect summer day? We think so.

Welcome August

The Snapdragon Inn

Nothing says summer, like cooling off in the fountain like this little snapper.

Is it really August already? Where is the summer going? Well, before we get ahead of ourselves, we still have months of lovely days before the snow falls so let's keep enjoying it!

~ a funkier look at the fireworks over Paradise Park from the other week.
~ another movie in the mix about our Hemingway with Clive Owen & Nicole Kidman. We like   everything Hemingway!
~ Speaking of movies,  have you seen any good movies lately? Harry Potter?  Crazy, Stupid, Love

250 Project at Snapdragon Inn

The Snapdragon Inn

Before the spectacular fireworks show on Friday night, we had a launch for the 250 People Project on the Inn lawn. There was a display of some of the enlarged portraits, a banner with all of the pictures, as well as a projection of the digital book which you can view here. Check out the project and share. The goal is to print a hard cover version of the book. You can email if you or anyone you know would be interested.

On another note:
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have some sort of annual art show on the Inn lawn in July?

Underwater snappers

The Snapdragon Inn

We thought these underwater shots of some of the snappers were too fun not to share this Monday morning. We had to get some pool time on Saturday afternoon after a hot and busy work morning at the Inn with all hands on deck. We got some serious weeding and re-seeding done.  Luckily, after a hot weekend it is raining this morning. Our gardens and our new seed could use some real moisture!

~ Speaking of underwater photos, these are just so magical.
~ What would you wear on a trip to the Greek Isles? Here's her pack bag.

How are you keeping cool?

The Snapdragon Inn

Phew! Don't know about you, but the last few days have been hot & humid around here. Thank goodness for A/C in the guest rooms and Chaz's fresh & delicious cookies for our guests!  How are you keeping cool? There seems to be  lots of lemonade drinking going on and some emergency pool visits over here. It feels necessary to constantly have a popsicle or some form of ice consumption going on. Wouldn't these be a blast to eat? or do you have a perfect recipe for fresh lemonade?

Save the date: Spectacular fireworks

Are you looking for a late July getaway? We have just the spot. Come visit us at the Snapdragon and enjoy one of the best fireworks shows around on Friday July 22nd. They are set over our gorgeous Paradise Park and Lake Runnemede just behind the Inn so the views are brilliant. In fact, there are many viewing spots all over Windsor. This year our town is celebrating its 250th birthday so there will be various activities to enjoy through out the month but now is the time to book a room for that weekend. The show is sponsored by the Windsor Mt-Ascutney Chamber of Commerce and kicks off Harpoon's BBQ Weekend. They will be plenty going on.

School's out for summer!

The Snapdragon Inn

School in Windsor is wrapping up this week which means our school aged little snappers are gearing up for the freedom of their summer vacation and rejoining their younger siblings on the homefront. Last week during that string of hot & humid days, they took summer for a test drive with some night tag followed by ice cream. We think they've got the hang of it just fine! They are just so happy, they can barely contain themselves!

kids + summer = something great. Don't you think?

Beam of light

The Snapdragon Inn

Then the sky began to darken and change.

Last night we appreciated the ceiling fans and rocking chairs of the back porch as the heat of the day continued to linger into the evening . The screens were shading us from the heat and shine of the setting sun but then it cooled off and what the sun and clouds created was a miraculous moment in the sky. There was a long, straight beam of light shooting from the clouds--just like Batman's. Then we experienced some impressive thunder and threat of big rain and just like it came, it was gone. Did you see the beam of light over Lake Runnemede?

Summer Drives in Vermont

One of my absolute favorite things to do in summer is to wander the green tunneled Vermont roads. Yesterday's high humidity made for a cool evening and gorgeous sunset. I drove out of town across the covered bridge and headed to Claremont, NH to the grocery store. These were some of the scenes within 5 minutes from the Inn. There are miles and miles and miles of beautiful drives. You could pick a few for your weekend at the Snapdragon or pack a week's worth! We are eager to share some of our favorites with you.
