Fall at the Inn

( action shot-- tinfoil, masking tape, sprain paint & patience)

Fall is here and we have embraced this gorgeous time of the year with some chic fall decor. We got some inspiration online and pinned them to our Inn decor board. Then we got some masking tape, tin foil and spray paint and had some QT with our pumpkins. We had some glorious big white ones that look amazing as is but experimented with some of the others. It is time consuming but they sure look cool. We mixed it up with a few metallic ones as well.  After we worked on ours, we saw the cover of Country Living and couldn't help but think that perhaps we had our finger on the pulse of the 2012 pumpkin trend. We love the way they turned out and think they fit right into our Snapdragon style. We suggest listening to the new Mumford & Sons album while you tape your patterns.

We can't wait to welcome all of our guests this colorful season.

This was fun to read

The Snapdragon Inn

We were so happy to read this guest's notice of so many of the design details at the Inn.
The newly renovated inn has both bold and muted colors reflecting a crisp design sense more often associated with urban hotels. The amenities and finishes are elegant while eclectic--post-modern lamps combine with throw pillows provide accent colors befitting the decor. --Guest, Massachusetts

Thank you Thank you!

How's your weekend rounding out? Windsor is gearing up for the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl Game tomorrow afternoon between the Vermont and New Hampshire 2011 high school all star football teams.  First, we'll have the always entertaining Shriners parade down Main Street right by the Inn and move into the the big game just down the street at the Windsor high school field in the afternoon. Windsor has two players on the team this year, Jacob Page and Austin Soule so we are very excited for them and wish our VT team three cheers and good luck!

Uplifting an Inn

The Snapdragon Inn

Room 5

This week's episode of Design Star on HGTV caught our attention because the challenge was to update a Bed & Breakfast on the Jersey Shore. The owners wanted to modernize the rooms and offer the amenities of a larger hotel but still maintain the warmth of their smaller establishment and of course the rooms needed to be durable. These were definitely thoughts that crossed our minds as we created our design plan for the Inn. Even thought they only had 2 days and 5 rooms, their budget blew ours out of the water. They also let each designer do whatever they wanted where we definitely wanted a cohesive look and feel to the whole project. However, no matter your budget or timeline, it is a challenging and very creative brief.  Of course, we had the added challenge of transforming a residential home into a commercial space which certainly brought it's complexities ;)

Unfortunately, when we took the before pictures, we didn't always get all the angles of the rooms
so we don't have the exact match for the After.

Tis' the season to decorate

The Snapdragon Inn

How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was wonderful and full of good food, good friends, and some good football watching. Big Red put the last touches on the holiday decorations, completing K80's decorating plan right on time. Are you getting out your Christmas gear? Here are a few more pictures of the Inn filling with holiday cheer. Looks like we have a bit of snow forecasted for the weekend and it feels like now snow is appropriate and even necessary to ensure a white Christmas. Enjoy this weekend and the beginning of this wonderful time of the year.

Gingerbread Fun

The Snapdragon Inn

How was your weekend? The Christmas decorations are almost finished for our Thanksgiving guests this week. On Saturday, there was a gingerbread party and lots of little snappers were around to help make cookies for the tree in the dining room but I think most of those ended up in their tummies. More were made and that tree is looking wonderful. There is something to be said about the simplicity of a gingerbread man, woman, and child in making a tree festive and smelling delicious! They are hanging with some fun fruit and red berries that k80 and Chaz scored at a craft score.

I think this might have to be a Snapdragon tradition and from the sounds of it, gingerbread has been around a long time! This is an interesting article called a "Gingerbread Tradition" that gives a lot of detail and insight into the spicy delight. Along similar lines, this article gives facts of interest about lots of Christmas foods. Have a great Monday!

Room 2 is a gem

Room 2 is a gem. The lovely clear light pours into its east facing windows and the calming color scheme create a relaxing space to be in. It is spacious, but still welcoming and has one of the larger bathrooms with a shower and an antique claw foot tub (that we refinished of course) to soak away the evening or morning or day. A recent guest of Room 2 left this wonderful review on trip advisor. Continue to read about some of the room details.
Just returned from a wonderful stay at the Snapdragon Inn. After many long work weeks in Boston, I needed some time away from the city to relax and refresh, this place was the perfect find.

My room was pristine and came equipped with a flat screen which streamed Netflix and Blockbuster movies (along with full service cable) so I was able to catch a few movies that I had missed in the theaters. Not only that, but the bed was THE MOST COMFORTABLE bed I have ever slept on. I woke feeling amazing and I didn't want to leave it!

The property was right along a beautiful lake, in a town that borders the Connecticut river, so the views were awesome. I especially loved the warm hospitality of the innkeepers. Their care made me feel at home- right down to the fresh cookies and milk before bed.

After: K80 and Velda worked their magic

First we stripped the floors and the walls(these were painted wallpaper walls) to lighten the room (no small task, right?). A few of the details in this room include a chair from Brimfield that K80 and her mom gave a second life to when they meticulously recovered it (in the highest humidity you could imagine) and now sits elegantly in the corner with a gorgeous tropical print that gives a zing of color to the mostly pale room but also ties together all of our room details. The lamps were another Brimfield score this last May and were so excited the way they bring in the turquoise of the tropical and work with the coral velvet that we placed behind the headboard to give it more elegance and depth. The blue Snapdragon Pillow pulls right into the Sevres Blue of the bathroom and the deeper blue swirl (also purchased in India at Fab India if you know the place and if you do, isn't it out of this world!) pulls from the tropical blues as well but also adds a contrast to the white of the bed. We can't forget the gorgeous photos by Leilani Bascom that perfectly compliment each room.

It is fun looking back on each detail of these rooms and the real thought and time that went into every single one and so happy we can now share them with you. Room 2 could just be the one for you.

Final touches: Curtains & Rugs

Room 8

Room 6 (Black sheep skin--not a bear ;)

Putting up the curtains and choosing the right rugs have been the final components to the guestroom designs. They add that much needed finishing touch (and sound absorption). Don't you think? Look at differences in rooms 6 & 8.

Weekend Flower Arrangements

These gorgeous flower arrangements were created by our very own Keighty. She picked them all on a walk around the lake and then created these striking arrangements (while 6 months pregnant). They were the perfect touch to bring the lovely autumn foliage into the Inn.

Color From Beginning to End

Room 5

We knew from the start that we would like to accent each bed with one of our custom Snapdragon prints and that worked out well for all the rooms but Room 5 because we didn't have any yellow printed. In the 23rd hour before the open house, 2 of our creatives came up with the awesome pillow pictured above. It's also fun to look back at the early days picking colors and watch how it all came together so well (with a lot of hard work of course!)

Wow, what a weekend. Thank you to all who came out to our Sneak Peek Party on Saturday. Miraculously, it all came together and looked lovely. There are still some final touches and lots of tweaks but we are nearly there and will continue to share as we inch closer and closer to our Grand Opening on September 1st 2010.

There are many many more photos to share and will the rest of the week.
