Visiting Vermont- For Families

The Snapdragon Inn

Vermont is a wonderful place to get away from it all and just enjoy nature and small town life. However, if you and your kids need a little more excitement, here are some favorite Vermont places, all are 2 hours or closer drives from Windsor.

Billings Farm and Museum
Established in 1871, this working farm and museum features exhibits, annual special events, a museum shop, and refreshments at the Dairy Bar. (20 minutes away)

Montshire Museum of Science
When you are on vacation with your kids, you can’t beat a great children’s museum. Norwich, Vermont is the home of this great place to spend the day. In the summer, be sure to bring swimsuits along to play in the water exhibits outside. The website is full of great details about the permanent exhibits as well as special events. (20 minutes away)

Quechee Gorge and Balloon Festival
The Quechee (pronounced Kwee-Chee) Gorge is a beautiful site with some great hiking trails and picture opportunities of the gorge itself. A trip to the gorge won’t take all day, but if you are in the mood for a little Vermont themed shopping you can also check out the Quechee Gorge Village. The balloon festival, held in early June, is fantastic. You can actually go right onto the launch site to watch the balloons inflate. (15 minutes away)

Ben and Jerry’s Factory
The tour is appropriate for all members of the family, mainly because it’s SHORT! get a free cup of ice cream at the end! The gift shop is pricey, but fun, and don’t forget to stop by the ice cream shop for a smoothie or crazy big cookie sundae before you head out. When the weather is good, there's a great playground and picnic area as well. Make it a day and see the Vermont Teddy Bear Company’s Factory as well. (1 1/4 hours away)

The Vermont Teddy Bear Company Factory Tour
Located in Shelburne, this is another inexpensive, short, yet informative tour. I still have a lovely memory of the first time I visited, my Dad bought me a little bear, (nevermind that I was 24 and married). (2 hours away)

Have fun!
